About the Director

Michael Blair

Mr. Blair is currently in his 25th  year as the 7-12 vocal music instructor at Humboldt Community School.  He has 36 years of teaching experience, having taught previously in Oelwein and Tripoli.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Western Illinois University and has continued his education through graduate courses at Drake, the University of Northern Iowa, Vandercook, the University of Iowa, and others. 

At Humboldt, Mr. Blair directs the select Concert Chorale, Middle School Choir, Jazz Choir, and teaches music theory/history.  He annually produces a Broadway Musical, hosts a growing Barbershop Festival attracting over 100 students from the surrounding area, and hosts the IHSMA Large Group Festival. He is also the Audio/Visual Technical Director for the district.

His ICDA duties have included managing the ICDA Boutique for seven  years, and chairing the 2002 NCACDA Junior High Honor Choir.  He has been guest director of the NCICDA Boys Honor Choir and was honored to direct the 2000 7-8 Boys Opus Honor Choir. 

In his spare time, Mr. Blair enjoys toying with technology, and produces MIDI files to assist students in learning the Opus and All-State literature.
